Clean Up your Work space
Just like your home, your work space also becomes a dumping ground. Depending on your industry, this can be your desk, cubicle or office, your locker or work bench. When you have some downtime, take a few minutes to throw away obvious trash and sort the important items. You’ll be amazed by how much more efficiently you can work when you’re not constantly searching for a pen (or wrench, or stethoscope, or whatever it is that you frequently use)!
Learn Something New
Learning a new task not only keeps your mind sharp, it makes you stand out. Your boss will take notice if you are continually striving to learn more and grow each year, especially if yearly performance reviews and raises are a factor. This spring, ask your boss for a few minutes of his or her time to discuss some new opportunities. They will more than likely be thrilled and keep you in mind for upcoming promotions.
Refresh Your Work Wardrobe
Are those 20 year old work boots that you’ve had since you were 18 still doing the job? If you’re on your feet all day it’s important to invest in a good pair of work shoes or insoles- your body will thank you! Or maybe you’re not on your feet and you’re a receptionist dreaming of being office manager one day. Dress the part! Trade in your sneakers and polos for some sharp dress shoes and blazers. If you feel confident, you’re more likely to be confident in your work.
