There are hundreds of good reasons to quit your job. You could be going back to school, moving across the country, or getting a huge pay raise elsewhere. Sometimes though, your reason for quitting is not as obvious or easy to explain. And if you’ve been at your job for a while you may find yourself feeling comfortable, so why leave? You know your boss, coworkers, and customers. You come in to work and know exactly what you will be doing. Here are two big reasons why it may be time to look for new employment.
1. You Dread Going to Work
Do you find yourself living for the weekend? Or counting down the minutes until the clock strikes five? Work is not meant to be fun (that’s why it’s called work!), but it shouldn’t make you physically or mentally ill. Maybe you work in an unsafe or dangerous environment that’s causing you to be physically worn down. The job is fine and pays the bills, but it takes a toll on you. On the other hand, you may truly enjoy your work, but you have a terrible boss or coworker that makes the workday miserable. While no job is perfect, you should never be in constant anxiety about going to work.
2. You’re Bored Out of Your Mind
So you’ve mastered everything in your current role and are ready to learn more. That’s great! Are there any promotion opportunities available? How about a training program? Talk with your boss and let him or her know that you’re eager to learn more. They will most likely be thrilled. If not, it may be time to move on. Of course you want to be confident in your skills at work, but if you are never challenged, each day will become one boring blur after the other.
